What is CNC machining?
CNC (Computer numerical control) is a computer numerically controlled machine tool. It is an automated machine tool with a built-in program control system, which is mainly used for large-scale machining of parts.
CNC is generally composed of host, numerical control device, drive device, auxiliary device, programming, and other auxiliary equipment, among which the numerical control device is the core of CNC.
CNC machining refers to machining with CNC machining tools. CNC refers to CNC machine tools controlled by a CNC machining language for programming, usually G code.
The CNC machining G code language tells the Cartesian position coordinates of the machining tool of the CNC machine tool and controls the feed speed and spindle speed of the tool, as well as the tool changer, coolant, and other functions. Compared with manual machining, CNC machining has great advantages. For example, the parts produced by CNC machining are very accurate and repeatable; CNC machining can produce parts with complex shapes that cannot be completed by manual machining. Numerical control machining technology is now widely promoted. Most machining workshops have NC machining capabilities. The most common NC machining methods in typical machining workshops are CNC milling, CNC turning, and CNC EDM wire cutting (electric discharge wire cutting).
CNC milling tool called CNC milling machine or CNC machining center. The lathe that performs the CNC turning process is called a CNC turning center. CNC machining G code can be programmed manually, but usually, the machine shop uses CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) software to automatically read CAD (Computer-Aided Design) files and generate G-code programs to control the CNC machine.
Advantages of CNC machining
CNC machining has the following advantages.
①Massively reduce the number of tooling, processing the shape of complex parts do not require complex tooling. If you want to change the shape and size of the parts, you only need to modify the parts processing program, suitable for new product development and reshaping.
②Stable machining quality, high machining accuracy, high repeatability, adapt to the processing requirements of the aircraft.
③Multi-species, small batch production under high productivity, can reduce production preparation, machine tool adjustment, and process inspection time, and due to the use of the best cutting volume and reduce the cutting time.
④ Can be processed by conventional methods difficult to process the complex surface and even processing some unobservable processing parts.
The disadvantage of CNC machining is that the machine tool equipment is expensive, requiring a high level of maintenance personnel.
